“so she can accomplish this august ritual
and get back to the ritual of shopping for housewares”
This part of My Grandmother Washes Her Feet in the Sink of the Bathroom at Sears by Mohja Kahf was very interesting to me. Kahf connected the ritual of praying to shopping which I thought was very clever. There was a very clear theme to Kahf’s poem of religion which also made reading and hearing it enjoyable. I liked the contrast as well of describing how graceful the grandmother was while praying at Sears to the building itself. The poem was lighthearted as well as telling a deeper meaning of western standards.
